My Wet Bear Encounter:
I met this bear on the coast of Lake Clark National Park, Alaska. It was my first time to the State and seeing a bear in the wild! What an incredible and exhilarating experience. Every day we went out to the mudflats (with a professional bear guide) and trudge through the thick, sticky mud to photograph the bears clamming. One morning, we were photographing this bear when he looked up, right down my lens. The look was curious but also a warning not to get too close. Then he carried on. In that brief moment, there was a primal connection that I will never forget. I knew I had to paint that moment.
